Kudos to ForSight Vision Volunteer, Rebecca Quattrone

Battito (Pulse) - Winning Mosaic Piece by Rebecca QuattroneWe are proud to have Rebecca Quattrone taking part in our Children's Art Program, and we congratulate her on winning the Orsoni Smalti Veneziani Prize 2011, an international award for the field of Fine Art Mosaics.

Her winning piece, entitled "Battito" (Pulse) is a mosaic creation depicting her heartbeat in an electrocardiographic tracing.  Her website explains that Battito "echoes the lifegiving force of a heartbeat, a powerful entity that simultaneously enslaves and sustains."

Quattrone told York College student, Leah Pekofsky, an intern in the Office of Communications, “This award provides the art department and the College in general with accreditation among the faculty. In the mosaic art world, this recognition and honor by Orsoni Veneziani is one of the highest honors in my field and places me in the international mosaic world. I am so incredibly honored to be recognized by Orsoni. This honor places me among a very small but elite group of internationally known mosaic artists.” (See Pekofsky's article.)

Rebecca has been an adjunct faculty member at York College in the Music, Art, and Communication department since 2004 and also teaches mosaics at YorkArts. We, here at ForSight Vision Center, are honored to have her teaching mosaics in our Children's Art Program as a volunteer; and we are seeking funding to have her work with our children and develop a large scale mosaic project.
